Belarusian Auto Moto Touring Club (BKA) is a non-governmental organization that provides roadside assistance, advocates for road safety and protects the interests of drivers on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. BKA was founded in 1998. Since its foundation BKA has become a member of such prominent organizations as Alliance Internationale de Tourisme (AIT), Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the FIA Foundation, the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) and Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. BKA is a partner and at the same time an analogue of such world automobile clubs as ADAC, AAA, OAMTC, ACI, ANWB, LAMB, LAS, PZM.
BKA cooperates closely with the Road Traffic Police of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Education and other governmental and non-governmental organizations. Particularly BKA and Traffic Road Police cooperation is a unique example of a fruitful collaboration between NGO and governmental body that made it possible to yield tangible results.
BKA was particularly concerned about the devastating fact that every four days a child died on the roads of the Republic of Belarus. With this in mind, the Club has developed a strategy for improving road safety in the country. The pillars of the strategy are: to prevent accidents, to influence the behavior of road users via road safety training and education programs, to stabilize and reduce the death rate and number of traffic injuries among drivers, passengers and pedestrians and to improve road safety governance and public policy. The BKA road safety strategy focuses on the whole population of the Republic of Belarus but is specifically targeted at novice drivers and children as they are the most vulnerable road users.
Since 2011 BKA has been supporting the Decade of Action for Road Safety. Joining the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 BKA as non-profit organization showed to the government its willingness to improve road safety situation in the Republic of Belarus and to cooperate with other countries in our common deed – save millions of lives.
In December 2014 BKA was mentioned in the official report to the President of the Republic of Belarus as a public organization that contributed immensely to the road safety.
BKA has been implementing road safety policy in Belarus since 2011, and the success of its hard work can be proved by the following results on road safety in Belarus:
- the amount of crashes with children has been reduced by 20 %
- death-rate of children has been reduced by 43 %
- the usage of seat-belts and child restrains has increased by 80 %
